Davis, California Truck Accident Results in Several Fatalities

A tragic trucking accident shocked the community of Davis, California. The accident occurred on County Road 102 near the intersection of Pole Line Road in Yolo County. The horrible accident involved a small van that was transporting disabled passengers from the United Cerebral Palsy ("UCP") center of greater Sacramento. According to published reports, a Ford F-250 truck driven by Jeffrey Richard Rivas, swerved into oncoming traffic and struck the UCP van head-on. Mr. Rivas was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

It is unclear what caused the truck driver to swerve into oncoming traffic. California Highway Patrol investigators are still in the process of investigating the accident. It is possible that driver intoxication contributed to this tragic accident. It is also possible that driver inattention played a role in this accident. Truck drivers who text, talk on cell phones, or are otherwise distracted present a deadly hazard to all other motorists on the road.

The driver of the UCP bus was 35-year-old Luz Torres of Sacramento. Ms. Torres was transported to U.C Davis Medical center and is reportedly in critical condition. Another victim, 24-year-old Nicole Tabarez, was transported to Sutter Hospital in Davis. She was suffering from abdominal contusions but was later released after receiving emergency treatment.

Two of the passengers on the UCP bus suffered fatal injuries as a result of this horrible accident. Laura Sue Weiderholt died the following day from her injuries. The Yolo County Coroner's Office also confirmed that 35-year-old Sara Rae Johnson of Davis was killed in the accident. Families who have experienced the wrongful death of a loved one in a trucking accident deserve compassionate representation by an experienced California trucking accident attorney who will zealously fight on their behalf.

The rest of the disabled bus passengers that survived the accident suffered serious injuries. Barbara Starnes was transported to Mercy San Juan Hospital suffering from various abrasions. Maria Arce was airlifted to Kaiser Permanente Hospital in South Sacramento. She reportedly was suffering from contusions throughout her entire body. Leo Jimenez and Rhonda Letbetter were both transported to Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Vacaville suffering from various severe injuries.
